EFFECTIVE TREATMENT REQUIRES ACCURATE DIAGNOSIS

Corns, warts, and verrucae are all common skin conditions that can cause discomfort or pain and are often confused and misdiagnosed.

Corns are small, raised areas of thickened skin that usually develop on the feet or toes in response to pressure or friction. They are usually round and have a hard center surrounded by inflamed skin. Corns can be painful and may feel like a small pebble in your shoe. They are usually caused by wearing tight or ill-fitting shoes, or by repetitive motions that put pressure on the same area of the foot.

Warts, on the other hand, are caused by a viral infection and can develop on any part of the body. They are usually small, rough growths that can have a cauliflower-like appearance. Warts are caused by HPV, and they are contagious. They can be spread through direct contact with the skin or by sharing personal items like towels or shoes.

Verrucae are a type of wart that develop on the sole of the foot. They are usually flatter and less raised than regular warts, but they can be just as painful. Like warts, they are caused by the HPV virus and are contagious. The virus thrives in wet or damp environments, such as swimming pool floors, communal changing areas and showers.

In summary, corns are caused by pressure or friction and warts are caused by a viral infection which can be treated at a Nail & Skin appointment. Verruca is a type of wart that specifically develop on the sole of the foot and Swift is an effective treatment to get rid of the verruca. It is important to see a podiatrist for an accurate diagnosis and recommendation of treatment.

Skin problems are often confused, difficult to identify and mistreated with over-the-counter topicals. Leave that to us, the foot specialists. Book a Verruca Diagnosis Consultation – a 40 min consultation during which our Podiatrist can identify your problem and recommend the right treatment for you. It is often possible to have Swift Microwave Treatment done at this consultation, if Swift is right for you.

AN EFFECTIVE SOLUTION FOR VERRUCAS

Are you tired of dealing with pesky warts that are hard to treat? We are excited to recommend an effective treatment for surface-based skin lesions, primarily warts and stubborn verrucae, for our patients.

Like all warts, plantar warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) virus. Underneath the skin, the wart can have finger-like roots that reach down and grow, making them very difficult to treat effectively from the surface.

Swift is a cutting edge technology, developed in the UK, which has been licensed for the general treatment of skin lesions in Podiatry and Dermatology. Swift delivers a low dose microwave energy through a specialised probe that targets and effectively treats the underlying HPV virus by simulating a natural immune response in the body. Addressing the root cause, not the symptom.

Swift is exclusively available at Foot Mechanics Milford and Foot Mechanics Rotorua.

Benefits of Swift treatment
Skin Lesion

Infected verruca (wart) tissue can exist several millimetres below the surface and can be difficult to treat using traditional methods, resulting in either untreated tissue or significant damage.

Swift Microwave Therapy

Swift delivers a precise, highly controlled energy dose. As microwaves travel into the tissue, water molecules begin colliding and creating localised heat energy – quickly destroying all infected tissue within a predetermined depth.

Swift Post Treatment

In just seconds the treatment is complete, leaving the body to absorb and replace the treated tissue.

Case Study 1

Swift Before and After

Middle aged female patient with multiple large lesions on the right plantar forefoot and heel for over 10 years.

The pain from walking on the lesions was significantly affecting her daily living activities and exercise. For years she had tried multiple interventions with no success.

After 3 Swift treatments, all her verruca lesions had resolved within 11 weeks.

Case Study 2

Swift Before and After

Middle aged male patient presented with 2 large lesions on left plantar forefoot and single large lesion on right foot. Lesions would regularly build up with overlying hyperkeratosis causing increased pressure.

After 9 years with these persistent plantar warts, it took only 3 Swift treatments and all three lesions had resolved.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DOES IT HURT?

Like many treatments for skin lesions, some minor discomfort may be experienced. Pain levels vary from person to person but most people undergoing Swift liken it to a pain similar to an injection or a scratch, lasting 2-3 seconds then quickly subsiding.

WHAT CAN I DO AFTER TREATMENT?

In some cases the treated area may feel sore but will not prevent you undertaking normal daily activities.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

This is dependent on how complex your lesions or verrucae and how you respond to treatment. In most cases you will need more than one treatment (these are usually a month apart depending on the response) and average 3-4 treatments. Your Podiatrist will be able to discuss this with you.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

A Verruca Diagnosis Consultation costs $92 and a Swift Verruca Treatment costs $289 per treatment. At your Consultation, your podiatrist will be able to diagnose if you require more treatment time due to multiple lesions/verrucae – this will add 20 minutes and $92 to your total treatment. Please note, a Consultation is a prerequisite for Swift Verruca Treatment. We offer payment options such as AfterPay and HealthNow.

CAN ANYONE RECEIVE THIS TREATMENT?

With a few exceptions, most people with skin lesions can have this treatment. Your Podiatrist will carry out an assessment at your Verruca Diagnosis Consultation prior to treatment and advise you on this. It is not suitable if you have metal implants in your foot.

HOW DO I KNOW I HAVE A VERRUCA AND NOT A CORN?

It is common to confuse corn, warts and verruca. Skin problems are often confused and difficult to identify. Verruca is a wart and therefore requires a more comprehensive treatment plan to get rid of. Our Podiatrist can help. Book a Verruca Diagnosis Consultation – a consultation during which our Podiatrist can identify your foot problem and recommend the right treatment for you.
